Review

The Gond of Central India are an aboriginal people whose music earlier figured on an LP called Tribal Music of India: The Muria and Maria Gonds of Madhya Pradesh (Folkways 4028), one of the more lucid titles in Folkways catalog (which during its founder Moses Asch's lifetime and while run by him was renowned for its ability to confuse and lose). Here the Gond are captured in a variety of ceremonial and social music, vocal and instrumental, including wedding and harvest songs, love songs and a rain dance. ~ Ken Hunt, Rovi
