Biography

The Seattle-based alterna-pop outfit Muzzle was formed in 1994 by singers/guitarists Ryan Maxwell and Wesley Nelson, longtime friends who had previously tenured in a series of short-lived metal bands. Endless shuffling of the rhythm section plagued the group throughout its early years, but they garnered a devoted live following and in time released their indie label debut Betty Pickup; soon after Muzzle signed with Reprise, releasing Actual Size in 1999. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

"Muzzle" is a song by The Smashing Pumpkins, from their third album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. It was one of the last songs written by Billy Corgan for Mellon Collie, with the song's lyrics referring to what Corgan thought the public's perception was of him at the time.[1] It was rumoured to be the Smashing Pumpkins fifth and final single from this album, as is evidenced by the fact that a promotional single for the song was issued to radio stations worldwide. However instead the song "Thirty-Three" was released as the fifth and final single.

Some have gone on to say that a music video was actually filmed for "Muzzle" with Chamberlin, but was never released. Billy Corgan has, however, denied this.[2] The band went on to perform "Muzzle" for their next television appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien with replacement drummer, Matt Walker.

"Muzzle" reached number 10 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks and number 8 on the U.S. Modern Rock Tracks.
