Though a committed father and husband, Kung (Li) is a mainland undercover cop assigned to a case so sensitive that he dare not tell what he does to those he loves the most. Ordered to infiltrate the crime syndicate run by the psychotic Po Kwong (Yu Rongguang), Kung befriends Po's associate Darkie (Blackie Ko Shou-liang) and helps him escape from jail. In gratitude, Darkie smuggles Kung in Hong Kong and introduces him to Po. During an exchange between the crime lord and a second shady customer who is hawking liquid explosives, a shootout ensues. Kung takes policewoman Fong Yat-wah (Anita Mui Yim-fong) hostage and flees the scene. After he saves her from falling to her death, Fong suspects that Kung is more than the average thug. She journeys to China to investigate the matter, and learns that indeed he is an honest cop. Unfortunately, some of Po's associates also go to China and learn the same thing. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

My Father Is A Hero (simplified Chinese: 给爸爸的信traditional Chinese: 給爸爸的信pinyin: Gĕi bàba de xìn; literally "Letter to Father"), also known as Letter To Daddy, The Enforcer or Jet Li's The Enforcer, is a 1995 Hong Kong action film directed by Corey Yuen and starring Jet Li.

Summary

Despite concerns over his asthmatic wife and (Martial Artist) son Kung "Little Ku" Ku (Xie Miao), Kung Wei (Jet Li), a police officer of the People's Republic of China, is assigned to bring down a Hong Kong gang and its sadistic leader Po Kwang (Yu Rong Guang).

Media

  • The Mei Ah Laserdisc contains a scene where Po Kwang and his thug (Collin Chou) speculate Kung Wei being an undercover cop. It occurs before the scene where Little Ku appears on the news. Versions maintaining the original score that exclude this scene contain a jump in the audio.
  • Indian distributor Diskovery released the export English version on VCD. It is cut however.
  • Mei Ah released a non-remastered DVD with Cantonese and Mandarin soundtracks with English and Chinese subtitles.
  • In the US, My Father Is A Hero was re-edited/scored/dubbed and released as The Enforcer by Dimension Films in 2000. No option for the original Cantonese audio was included. The same version of the film was released in the UK in 2004 by Hollywood Pictures.
  • A remastered anamorphic DVD was released by Mei Ah. Like a number of Mei Ah's "mono" soundtracks, it's a downmix of the 5.1 audio.
  • In 2009, Dragon Dynasty released a Special Edition of the film with new additional features. However, the Dimension cut and soundtrack had been preserved, making this the first Dragon Dynasty release that does not feature the original language soundtrack (with an exception to 'My Young Auntie').
  • Sometime in 2009, an Austrian DVD by MIB will be released featuring the uncut Hong Kong version in its original mono Cantonese soundtrack with new English subtitles.

To date, the only releases that remain uncut and have a Cantonese soundtrack are the Hong Kong releases from Mei Ah and the Chinese release from Zoke Culture - also the forthcoming MIB DVD.
