Plot

Perhaps best known as one of the infamous "Chicago 7," Abbie Hoffman symbolized modern American radicalism as he harnessed the energy of the hippie counterculture during the 1960s to promote his social causes. In addition to organizing movements for civil rights, antiwar, and ecological issues, Hoffman encouraged youth rebellion, stating that generational activism, not class conflict, would bring about social change. The culmination of his radicalism came in 1968, when he and seven of his fellow radicals were charged and tried for conspiracy to riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. In this program, which presents his first interview after seven years in hiding, Hoffman talks about the trial of the Chicago 7. ~ Kathryn Tamms, Rovi
