Biography

The face of American actor Myron Healey was not in and of itself villainous. But whenever Healey narrowed his eyes and widened that countenance into a you-know-what-eating grin and exposed those pointed ivories, the audience knew that he was about to rob a bank, hold up a stagecoach, or burn out a homesteader, which he did with regularity after entering films in the postwar years. Still, Healey could temper his villainy with a marvelous sense of humor: for example, his hilarious adlibs while appearing in stock badguy roles in such TV series as Annie Oakley and Gene Autry. With 1949's Colorado Ambush Healey broadened his talents to include screenwriting. Usually heading the supporting cast, Myron Healey was awarded a bonafide lead role in the 1962 horror film Varan the Unbelievable (a Japanese film, with scattered English-language sequences), though even here he seemed poised to stab the titular monster in the back at any moment. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Myron Daniel Healey (June 8, 1923 - December 21, 2005) was an American actor. He began his Hollywood, California, career during the early 1940s in bit parts and minor supporting roles at various studios.

Career

Healey was born in Petaluma, California, and served in World War II as an Air Corps navigator and bombardier, flying in B-26 Martin Marauders in the European Theatre. He continued that military duty, retiring in the early 1960s as a captain in the United States Air Force Reserve. Returning to film work after the war, Healey played villains and henchmen in low budget western films. In the post-war period, he was often seen in Monogram studio films, which starred Johnny Mack Brown, Jimmy Wakely and Whip Wilson.

In the 1950s, Healey moved to more bad guy roles in other films, including the Bomba and Jungle Jim series, crime dramas, and more westerns. Playing a good guy for a change, he was Phyllis Coates' partner in Panther Girl of the Kongo (1955). During the 1950s and 1960s, he was a frequent performer on such television series as Bill Williams's The Adventures of Kit Carson (1951-1955), in which he guest starred seven times as Captain Bandcroft.
