The txalaparta is an unusual musical instrument that has its origins in the Basque regions of Spain; a percussion instrument not unlike a xylophone, the txalaparta is large enough that two people must play it at once, and the sense of collaboration demanded by this instrument has inspired musicians Igor Otxoa and Harkaitz Martínez to use it as a means to bring people together. Traveling around the world, Otxoa and Martinez perform for native peoples and nomadic tribes, bringing their singular music to others with unique cultures and musical heritages. The film Nomadak TX follows Otxoa and Martinez as they perform everywhere from the frozen plains of Mongolia to the heat of the Sahara Desert and collaborate with native musicians at every stop, as well as allowing pairs of seemingly disparate players to unite over the txalaparta. Nomadak Tx was screened in competition at the 2007 Silverdocs Film Festival, a competition founded by the American Film Institute and The Discovery Channel. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
