Nürtingen, a small town in Württemberg north-east of Tübingen. It was the home of F. Hölderlin from 1774 to 1784 and was often visited by him later, as his mother continued to reside there. Hölderlin's stepfather, who died in 1779, was burgomaster of Nürtingen. The mother of E. Mörike moved to Nürtingen in 1825 and the poet often visited her, and in 1870-1 he himself settled there.
