Nestor Almendros

 

(born Oct. 30, 1930, Barcelona, Spain — died March 4, 1992, New York, N.Y., U.S.) Spanish cinematographer. In 1948 he emigrated from Spain to Cuba, where he worked with documentary filmmakers. After moving to France in 1961, he collaborated with Eric Rohmer on My Night at Maud's (1969) and Claire's Knee (1970), and with Francois Truffaut on The Wild Child (1970). His work in the U.S. includes Sophie's Choice (1982), and Billy Bathgate (1991).
