Duato, Nacho (b Valencia, 8 Jan. 1957). Spanish dancer, choreographer, and director. He trained at the Rambert School, Béjart's Mudra School, and at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center making his debut with Cullberg Ballet in 1980. In 1981 he joined Netherlands Dance Theatre where he was appointed Resident Choreographer in 1988. He has created works for many companies including Cullberg, Netherlands Dance Theatre, Berlin Opera Ballet, Australian Ballet, and Stuttgart Ballet. His versatile style fuses the physical lyricism of Kylián with his own distinctive theatrical imagination. In 1990 he was appointed artistic director of Compañia Nacional de Danza for which he has created many works including Tabulae (mus. A. Iglesias, 1994), Por vos muero (mus. 15th- and 16th-century Spanish music, 1996), Romeo y Julieta (mus. Prokofiev, 1997), and Multiplicity (mus. Bach, 2000).
