(nägä'ôkä) , city (1990 pop. 185,938), Niigata prefecture, central Honshu, Japan. An industrial center, it has oil refineries, chemical and food processing plants, engineering works, and machine-building factories. Nagaoka is also a transportation hub and a center for the surrounding skiing industry.
