Plot

Veteran filmmaker Mehboob Khan directs this romantic melodrama about two young Muslims in the northern city of Lucknow. Yusuf (Ashok Kumar) is a fledgling doctor who has fallen for Najma (Veena), the daughter of a wealthy landowner. Because of their respective class differences though, the two can never marry. Even though they eventually marry someone from their own circle, their love never abates. When Mukarram (Kumar), Najma's jealous husband, ventures to Yusuf's house with the intent of killing his rival, he meets with a nasty accident.
