Naka-Kon is an annual anime convention based in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Programming

Traditional features include instructional and educational panels and presentations by Naka-Kon staff members, volunteers, and experts including prominent American anime voice actors and manga artists; themed game shows such as Shonen Jump Millionaire and Anime Match Game which test players' knowledge of Japanese culture; contests such as the Anime music video contest and the Cosplay contest; and anime-themed NightVision Dance Parties in the evenings. The convention also includes an exhibit hall where items can be purchased such as anime figurines and Japanese-language manga, a gaming room featuring games of Japanese style and origin such as Dance Dance Revolution and Super Smash Bros, and anime screening rooms. An Formal Ball also occurs, along with Karaoke and Fanfiction contests.

History

Naka-Kon was founded in 2005 by members of the University of Kansas Anime Club with funding from the University of Kansas Student Senate, and charged no admission.[1]
