The Naked Brothers Band

Who2 Biography: The Naked Brothers Band, Pop Musicians

  • Born: 2005
  • Birthplace: The Movies
  • Best Known As: Stars of the Nickelodeon TV show with the same name

The Naked Brothers Band is a fictional pre-teen band created for the movie of the same name (released in 2005) and a Nickelodeon TV series that followed the movie in 2007. The stars of the fictional band are two real-life brothers, Nathaniel and Alex Wolff. (Lead singer Nat was born on 17 December 1994; Alex, the drummer, was born on 1 November 1997.) The Wolffs are showbiz kids: their father is jazz musician Michael Wolff, and their mother is actress Polly Draper. The Naked Brothers Band was a family-friendly spoof on rock films -- Variety called it an "independent quasi-mockumentary" -- with the brothers breaking up with their old band, forming a new one, fighting Alex's addiction to lemon-lime soda, and becoming world-famous. In the film and TV series, the Wolff brothers play characters with their own names, loosely based on themselves, with their father appearing as "Dad." The movie was picked up by the cable TV channel Nickelodeon in 2007, with the TV series following the same year.

Polly Draper played career woman Ellyn Warren on the TV series thirtysomething; she wrote and directed the original Naked Brothers Band movie, and is credited as creator of the TV series... The Wolff brothers are sometimes compared to two Disney-backed tween-rock-star acts, Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers... According to a 2007 article in The New York Times, "Nat and Alex were very young when they climbed out of the bath one day, Ms. Draper recalled, and both announced, 'We're the Naked Brothers Band!' as they danced around the apartment."
