Neil Wilburn, who also produced the excellent Border Affair the year before, casts the intensely personal outlaw manifestos on this third album much more in rock than country. By simultaneously mixing down Clayton's admittedly limited voice, the producer loses more than he gains in spite of assistance from Carlene Carter, Tracy Nelson and J.J. Cale. ~ Mark Allan, All Music Guide
