Biography

American actress Nan Martin's first burst of activity was in the late '50s, when TV anthology work abounded. Her film appearances commenced with The Buster Keaton Story in 1957. She remained a busy character actress into the mid '70s, playing such roles as the mother of paralyzed skiier Jill Kinmont (Marilyn Hassett) in The Other Side of the Mountain (1975) and its 1978 sequel. In 1986, Nan Martin had a recurring TV role as typist Grace D'Angelo on the Jeffrey Tambor sitcom Mr. Sunshine. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Nan Martin (born July 15, 1927) is an American actress who has starred in movies and on television.

Martin's first movie role was in the 1956 movie The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Her other film roles include The Mugger (1958), Doctor Detroit (1983), All of Me (1984), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) where she played the role of Amanda Krueger, the mother of killer Freddy Krueger. Nan's most recent film role is in the 2005 telefilm Thicker than Water.

Martin has starred on the tv show Mr. Sunshine. Her other well known TV role was in the 1983 miniseries The Thorn Birds and on the soap opera Santa Barbara. Nan had a recurring role on the ABC hit tv series The Drew Carey Show as Mrs. Lauder. She has made a lot of guest appearances on many television series, some of those appearances range from Ben Casey, The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, and Star Trek: The Next Generation as Victoria Miller in the season 1 episode "Haven". She appeared on an episode of The Golden Girls as the mean-spirited and nasty Frieda Claxton, who was told to drop dead by Rose Nylund and she surprisingly does. She also portrays Philomena, a friend of Sophia Petrillo's from Sicily, who claimed that Dorothy Zbornak was really her daughter and not Sophia's.

Her first husband was musical composer Robert E. Dolan whom she married on March 17, 1948. They had one son, Casey Martin Dolan. Her second husband, Harry Gesner, is the father of her other son, actor Zen Gesner.
