Early years

Naomi Collins was born in the year 1745. Prior to her marriage to Joshua Collins (Louis Edmonds), the legend holds that Naomi was involved with a pirate who had given her a horde of stolen jewels.

1795 flashback

Although Joshua was considered the master of Collinwood, the deed to the estate was in Naomi's name. Late in the year 1795, Naomi gained knowledge of her son Barnabas Collins' (Jonathan Frid) engagement to Josette du Pres (Kathryn Leigh Scott). Naomi and Joshua made arrangements to hold the wedding in the Old House. Naomi was oblivious to many of the occurrences happening around her, such as the witch Angelique Bouchard (Lara Parker) casting a spell to make Josette fall in love with Naomi's brother-in-law Jeremiah Collins (Anthony George).

Because Barnabas became depressed with losing Josette and being forced into marriage with Angelique, Naomi gave Barnabas ownership of the Old House as a gift. Although Barnabas had truly become a vampire, it was said that he had fallen ill from the plague. Soon after, governess Victoria Winters (Alexandra Moltke) warned Naomi the impending death of her young daughter Sarah Collins (Sharon Smyth).

Whilst many were suspicious of Victoria's knowledge of then-future events, Naomi took her words to heart and did everything in her power to protect Sarah. However, Sarah eventually developed pneumonia after spending the night in the rain. She soon died. Months later, Joshua discovered his son Barnabas' curse of vampirism. In order to protect him, Joshua kept the secret from everyone, including Naomi, and locked Barnabas in the tower room of the new Collinwood.

Nathan Forbes (Joel Crothers) eventually learned of Barnabas' existence and told everything to Naomi. After learning the truth, Naomi went to the tower room, only to discover Barnabas' coffin, with him inside. Unable to accept the truth, Naomi fell deeper into alcoholism. The same night, Naomi witnessed the brutal attack against Millicent Collins (Nancy Barrett). Unable to deal with any more trauma in her life, Naomi concocted a poison and killed herself in Barnabas' arms.

Dark Shadows (1991)

Naomi was portrayed by actress Jean Simmons in the 1991 revival of Dark Shadows.

In this vision of Naomi Collins, she was the matriarch in the year 1795. She mothered Barnabas Collins (Ben Cross), Daniel Collins (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Jeremiah Collins (Adrian Paul), and Sarah Collins (Veronica Lauren). Naomi was a devoted mother and looked forward to Barnabas' marriage to Josette du Pres (Joanna Going), and Jeremiah to Millicent Collins (Barbara Blackburn).
