Narrows

Narrows is a term for restricted land or water passages. Most commonly it refers to a strait, though it can also refer to a water gap.

Used without qualification, it generally refers to The Narrows, which separates Staten Island from Brooklyn and connects the upper and lower sections of New York Bay.
