Biography

Singer/guitarist/songwriter Nash Kato first rose to prominence in the '90s with Chicago alternative rockers Urge Overkill, and upon their split late in the decade, launched a solo career. Urge Overkill originally formed in 1986 and on the strength of such Touch & Go releases as Jesus Urge Superstar, Americruiser, The Supersonic Storybook, and Stull, the group's penchant for churning out Cheap Trick-esque power pop (as well as being championed by such noted acts as Nirvana) got the group signed to DGC. After some initial success (the 1993 album Saturation, as well as a hit remake of Neil Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," which was used to great effect in the 1994 movie Pulp Fiction), the group split up amidst rumors of bickering and drug abuse after only one more album, 1995's Exit the Dragon. Kato reappeared in April of 2000 with his solo debut, Debutante. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
