Nathaniel (alternate spelling: Nathanael) is a male name and surname. It comes from the Hebrew name נְתַנְאֵל/Nethan'el meaning "Gift of God"^[1][2] (from the Hebrew words nathan "Gift" + el "of God"). Nathaniel is commonly shortened to Nate, Nat, Natte, Natan, or Nathan.
