1847The National Era. An antislavery journal famous for its notable abolition articles, particularly those on the Compromise of 1850 and John Brown's raid. It also published poems and fiction, including Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin and Hawthorne's "The Great Stone Face."
