The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) wants to improve the abilities of people with disabilities. The agency conducts research to help create programs that assist disabled people in daily life and improve society's ability to support them. It offers information in areas such as employment, health, technological access, and independent living for the disabled. The agency also co-sponsors research programs with international agencies, foreign governments, and other US government organizations. Created in 1978 as part of the Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, the NIDRR has an annual budget of about $3 billion.

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) is a United States governmental institution that provides leadership and support for a comprehensive program of research related to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. It is subordinate of Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)[1], which in turn is a part of United States Department of Education. NIDRR's mission is to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities from birth through adulthood.
