The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) wants to improve the abilities of people with disabilities. The agency conducts research to help create programs that assist disabled people in daily life and improve society's ability to support them. It offers information in areas such as employment, health, technological access, and independent living for the disabled. The agency also co-sponsors research programs with international agencies, foreign governments, and other US government organizations. The NIDRR was created in 1978 as part of the US Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.
