US Military Dictionary: National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

A national cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii, containing the graves of more than 24, 000 World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War dead. The first internment at the cemetery was an unknown soldier killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941).

The cemetery is in the 2, 000-foot-wide Punchbowl crater, which is also known as Puowaina, literally “Hill of Sacrifice.”
