Founded in 1955 by William F. Buckley Jr., National Review is a biweekly magazine that reports and analyzes current events, politics and economics from a conservative perspective. Seen as the quintessential conservative magazine, National Review provides coverage of national, international and cultural affairs, placing an emphasis on Washington and other centers of political activity. In June 2004, founder William F. Buckley, who had served as editor-in-chief of the Review until 1990, announced his decision to relinquish his controlling shares in the magazine to a board of trustees that includes his son, humorist Christopher Buckley, and Thomas L. Rhodes, the president of the magazine.
