Emergence
Nayak dynasties emerged after the downfall of Vijayanagara Empire. The Nayaks were originally military governors under the supervision of the Vijayanagara Empire. After the battle of Talikota, several of them declared independence. The Nayak kingdoms included the following:
1) Keladi Nayaka
2) Nayaks of Madurai
3) Nayaks of Tanjore
4) Nayaks of Gingee or Senji Nayaks, founded by Ramabhadra Nayak [2][3]
5) Nayaks of Vellore
6) Nayaks of Chandragiri
7) Nayaks of Kandy (Sri Lanka)
8) Nayakas of Chitradurga
9) Nayaks of Beluru, Channapatna and Rayadurga [1]
