NBC California Nonstop (or simply California Nonstop) is a 24-hour news and entertainment service on the secondary digital television subchannels of NBC's owned-and-operated stations in Los Angeles (KNBC), San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland (KNTV), and San Diego (KNSD). The new Nonstop service replaced the NBC WeatherPlus channel which was aired on the DT2 subchannels of the aforementioned stations, and much of the content from KNBC's part-time News Raw service (also carried on its DT2 feed) is integrated into California Nonstop.
The channel originates from NBC Studios in Burbank, California, the headquarters of KNBC and the master control base of NBCUniversal's western-based owned-and-operated stations. Programming for California Nonstop features a mix of shows produced specifically for the channel by KNBC, KNTV and KNSD. Additional content is produced by other NBC owned-and-operated stations.[1]

NBC Local Media (the owned-and-operated stations division of NBC Universal), based on the success of its New York Nonstop service, began an initiative to create more local content for its other stations. During the fall of 2010, NBC launched new Nonstop channels on the secondary subchannels of its Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Chicago stations, and rolled out versions of Nonstop to its Dallas-Fort Worth and South Florida stations by the first week of May 2011; NBC's owned-and-operated station in Hartford, Connecticut, WVIT, is expected to have a Nonstop channel of its own by sometime in 2011.[2]
California Nonstop follows the model of New York Nonstop, which features live news and public affairs programming, lifestyle shows (such as LXTV, Open House, and In Wine Country), rebroadcasts of NBC News content, entertainment news, and possible other various programs.
After several months of delays, California Nonstop began transmission on May 3, 2011.[3] The three stations will launch an hour-long 7 p.m. newscast produced by and aired on their respective stations' second digital subchannels.[4]
