Like the Negev desert, Negevtech creates an inhospitable environment for silicon wafer defects. It makes process diagnostics equipment used in semiconductor production. Its 3100 wafer inspection system looks for minute damage to silicon wafers at various stages during the manufacturing process, which keeps damaged wafers from completing the fabrication cycle, resulting in chips that don't work. The company carries out research in Israel, but markets its products from the heart of Silicon Valley. Israel Growth Partners Acquisition Corp. (IGPA) cancelled its planned merger with Negevtech in mid-2008. Established in 1999, the company filed for creditor protection in a Tel Aviv district court in November 2008.
