Negotiations and Love Songs is a collection of Paul Simon's songs from 1971-1986. The title of the compilation is taken from a line in the song "Train in the Distance".

Almost all the songs on this compilation are listed in chronological order; track 1 and 2 are taken from Paul Simon (1972), track 3 to 6 are from There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), track 7 to 9 are from Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), track 11 are from his first retrospective Greatest Hits, Etc. (1977), track 10 from the motion picture soundtrack of One-Trick Pony (1980), track 12 to 14 are from Hearts and Bones (1983), and rest of the tracks are from his then-most recent album Graceland (1986).
