Nell Irvin Painter is an American historian and past President of the Organization of American Historians.[1]
Painter is the author of six books: Creating Black Americans, 2005; Southern History Across the Color Line, 2002; Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol, 1996; Black Migration to Kansas After Reconstruction, 1976; The Narrative of Hosea Hudson: His Life as a Negro Communist in the South, 1979; and Exodusters: Black Migration to Kansas After Reconstruction, 1976. Her forthcoming book, The History of White People is forthcoming March 2010. She is also the author of numerous articles and reviews.
Background and education
For her education, Professor Painter attended the University of California at Berkeley, (B.A.), 1964, University of California at Los Angeles, (M.A.), 1967; Harvard University, (M.A.), (PhD), 1974. She also attended the University of Bordeaux, France, 1962-63, and the University of Ghana, 1965-66.
