1. Antarctica: an island named after Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson (1758–1805), the British naval commander who won the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 although he was killed towards the end of it.
2. Australia (Victoria): a cape, probably named after Admiral Lord Nelson.
3. Canada (British Columbia): founded in 1887 and named Stanley or Salisbury, it was renamed in 1888 after Hugh Nelson (1830–93), the Irish-born lieutenant-governor of British Columbia. The river in Manitoba, discovered in 1612 by Sir Thomas Button (d. 1634), was named by him after the pilot of his ship, the Resolution, who died while exploring it.
4. New Zealand (South Island): settled in 1842 and named after Admiral Lord Nelson.
5. UK (England): named after a pub, the Lord Nelson Inn.
