Nemo is the tenth single by the Finnish symphonic power metal band Nightwish, the first from the album Once. The London Philharmonic Orchestra participated on the single.[1]
Nemo is Latin for "nobody". It is also the name of the mysterious captain in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Also, nemo corresponds to the famous answer given by the Greek hero Odysseus to the Cyclops Polyphemus. In the Odyssey, when Polyphemus asks for his name, Odysseus tells him "Ουτις" a name translated as "No-man" or "Nobody" which has been used allusively by later authors, such as Jules Verne. The line in the chorus "'Nemo' my name forever more" further suggests this meaning to be the intended one. Other thematic elements from the Odyssey appears in other Nightwish songs such as "The Siren".
A music video was created for the song, directed by Antti Jokinen.

Once topped the album charts in Finland, Germany, Norway, Greece, Slovenia and Hungary.[2] Widely successful, the single was certified gold in Finland on the day of its release. In the UK it could only chart at #87 after a chart entry of #101 the week before, but spent over 20 weeks on the top 200 plus a few re-entries. [3] However it has been in the top 10 of the UK rock Charts as recently as May 2008, highlighting the recent acclaim the band has recently had in the United Kingdom.
Nemo was certified with Gold Disc in Finland one week after release, with more than 5,000 sold copies.[4], and got Platinum disc after two weeks, with more than 10,000 sold copies.[5]

The song can be heard in the ending credits of the 2005 film, The Cave and a special version of the music video was released that contained scenes from the movie. On the Australian music quiz show Spicks and Specks, a video clip of Nemo was featured with questions to go with it.[6]
For Nemo, a big-budget video was made, the director was Antti Jokinen, who had previously worked with Shania Twain, Celine Dion and Eminem. The scenery was made by Tuomas and Tero Kinnunen, but Antti made some changes.
The video was #1 in Brazilian MTV -videochart, and also was #1 in the MTV´s UPNORTH -videochart.[7]
