A technique for predicting earthquakes that involves measuring the rate of slippage of landmarks along faults.

The study of the causes and effects of the movement of the earth's crust in the neogene, i.e. the late Cenozoic era. Some restrict the term to studies since the Miocene; others use it to refer to Quaternary movements alone.
