net name arrangement

Marketing Dictionary: net name arrangement

list rental agreement whereby the list user pays the list owner only for the names used, usually after a merge/purge has deleted undesirable names or after a selection has been made from the total list. Most agreements include that a minimum of 85% of the gross names must be paid for, but this is subject to negotiation and in the mid-1980s was the subject of much debate by list owners, who wanted it raised to increase their revenue, and list users, who felt it should be lowered.
