The Netherlands men's national volleyball team is the national team of the Netherlands.
In the mid-1980s, the Dutch Volleyball Federation systematically started to build their national team, to catch up with the world’s top. In the first year of the World League in 1990 the team won the second place straightaway. The idea was successful: Dutch national players got the chance to change from the up to then unimportant own first league to the popular Serie A in Italy, earned top salaries and become worldwide volleyball stars. Names like Peter Blangé, Martin van der Horst and Bas van de Goor received international meaning, which was underlined by the 1996 Olympic title in Atlanta, Georgia and the winning of the 1997 European Championship in their own country.
