1. Canada: a province. Part of the French colony of Acadia, the territory passed to the British in 1713 and in 1763 it was incorporated into Nova Scotia. In 1784 it became a province in its own right and was named by United Empire Loyalists after King George III†, one of whose titles was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
2. USA (New Jersey): settled in 1681 as Prigmore's Swamp and then renamed Inian's Ferry in 1713 after John Inian, the first settler who began a ferry service across the Raritan River here. Subsequently, it was renamed after King George I†, the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
