Review
This small-label release features four fine musicians from northern California. Guitarist Damon Castillo is the leader and one would assume the composer of most of the 11 group originals (although no credits are given). He interacts comfortably with tenor saxophonist Joel Abrian, bassist Matt Taylor, and drummer James Conver on a variety of post-bop songs. None of the players are virtuosos or startling new voices on their instruments, but they display solid musicianship, swing well, and they communicate well with each other. This will be a difficult release to locate, but if one runs across it, it is worth exploring. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi| New Devotion (2000 Album by Paradoxx) | |
