The New Mexico House of Representatives is one of two houses of the state's legislature. Regarded as the lower house, the House is composed of 70 representatives who are elected by the constituencies from throughout the state. Each representative represents about 26,000 residents. A Speaker leads House sessions. Committees such as appropriations and finance, agriculture, and business and industry meet during regular legislative sessions to spearhead bills that are then sent on to the full House for a vote. Bills that are passed are then forwarded to the Governor's office before they become law.
