New Tredegar (Welsh: Tredegar Newydd) is a former coal mining community [1] in the Rhymney Valley, Caerphilly county borough, Wales [2], within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.
New Tredegar is home to The Winding House, originally used during the mining period for the East shaft it is now home to a county museum which opened in 2008. It is controlled by CCBC Museums service and the Friends of the Winding House community group.
The area is rich in the industrial heritage of the ex South Wales coalfield and this heritage is commemorated in the new architecture [3].
Plymouth Argyle F.C loanee midfielder Darcy Blake was born in New Tredegar. He is on loan from fellow Coca-Cola Championship club Cardiff City F.C.
