New York State Court Officers are law enforcement officers who provide police services to the New York State Unified Court System, and enforce state and city laws at all facilities operated by the New York State Unified Court System.

New York State Court Officers undergo a fourteen-week training course at one of two New York State Court Officer academies which are located in New York City and Cohoes, N.Y. The training course includes training in criminal and civil procedure law, police science, powers of a peace officer, basic firearms training, defensive tactics, radio use, arrest procedures, gang intelligence, and first aid/CPR.[1]
The New York State Court Officers Academy was founded by Chief Thomas R. Hennessy (Ret.) in 1971.
New York State Court Officers are New York State peace officers authorized to make warrantless arrests, make car stops, issue summonses, carry and use firearms, batons, pepper spray, and handcuffs, and use physical and deadly force.[2]
New York State Court Officers currently utilize fully marked Chevrolet Impalas, Dodge Chargers, Chevrolet Suburbans, and Chevrolet Expresses in their vehicle fleet.[3][4][5]
New York State Court Officers are equipped with a Glock 19 9mm semi-automatic pistol, expandable baton, handcuffs, flashlight, bullet resistant vest, and a radio that is directly linked to the Central Dispatcher and other officers.
Veteran Officers that were originally issued a .38 caliber revolver upon their appointment as a New York State Court Officer, have the option of still carrying it. However, the majority of the veteran officers have made the switch to the Glock 19.
