Review

The group's 1988 debut -- the only material recorded with A Guy Called Gerald -- is straightahead acid-house, minus the genre experimentations that characterize later albums such as 808:90. Nevertheless, the mid-'90s generation of techno progressives (including Aphex Twin) saluted this album's raw edge as a major influence. In 1999, Aphex Twin reissued Newbuild on his Rephlex label. ~ John Bush, Rovi
