NewsWatch is the longest-running English newscast of Radio Philippines Network in the Philippines. It is also the flagship newscast of the station and longest-running newscast in the country.
It was first aired in 1969. It became one of the highest rating English newscasts on Philippine TV. It produced some spin-offs like its Tagalog newscast NewsWatch Balita Ngayon, NewsWatch Evening Cast which is the first early-evening English newscast and its late night edition entitled NewsWatch Prime Cast. It was replaced in the year 2000 by Primetime Balita. In the year 2001, it went back on the air entitled NewsWatch Now and on 2006, it produced RPN Aksyon News which was named NewsWatch Aksyon Balita.
On March 9, 2007, it aired for the last time. It was replaced with i-Watch News last March 12, 2007 anchored by former K-Lite disc jockey Carlo Tirona and Aryana Lim (replaced by Lexi Schulze after a few months). On January 7, 2008, it went back on the air replacing Aksyon Balita. It was anchored by the network's President and Chief Executive Officer and former senator Orly Mercado and the News and Current Affairs department head Marigold Haber-Dunca. On January 14, 2008, its Late-night spin-off was aired as its Second Edition, anchored by Jay Esteban and Queen Sebastian. The network's hourly news updates was renamed as NewsWatch Update.
On October 8, 2008, because of the coverage of the games of the Philippine Basketball Association, it began to air regularly on the second half of the game every Wednesday and Friday.
On October 11, 2008, another installation was premiered entitled NewsWatch Junior Edition. It was first aired on June 7, 2008 as a reality show until August 16, 2008. The show is hosted by the contestants of the show.
On February 16, 2009, former ABS-CBN news anchor Joyce Burton-Titular replaced Orly Mercado as anchor to focus Mercado on his duties as the network's President and CEO. This was the second time that females became the anchors of the newscast since the time of Cathy Santillian, Cielo Villaluna and Cristina Peczon.
On November 30, 2009, upon the launching of RPN as Solar TV, the running time was changed from 30 minutes to 60 minutes. From the usual twice a daily every 5:30 pm and 11:00 pm, it became once a day every 5:30 pm. The anchors in the first editon was retained with the addition of Reema Chanco. Due to the live broadcast of PBA, the newscast is aired three times a week every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
