Niijima (新島村 Niijima-mura?) is a village located in Izu Islands, Ōshima Subprefecture, Tokyo, Japan. The village is on the islands of Niijima and Shikinejima. The village is known for its onsen (hot spring) and local beer.

History

  • October 1, 1923: The area was organized into municipalities. Niijima was administered as Niijimahon (新島本村 Niijima-honson?, lit. "Niijima Main Village"). Shikenejima was administered as Wakagō (若郷村 Wakagō-mura?). Both villages belonged to Ōshima Island Government Office.
  • 1926: Ōshima Island Government Office changed to Ōshima Subprefecture.
  • November 1, 1954: Niijimahon absorbed Wakagō.
  • April 1, 1992: Niijimahon changed its name to Niijima.
