Plot

In the footsteps of Lolita and Starting Out in the Evening comes Indian director Ram Gopal Varma's age-disparity romance Nishabd. Bollywood mainstay Amitabh Bachchan stars as Vijay, a sexagenarian photographer and family man who makes a fated encounter with his daughter Ritu's (Shradha Arya) best friend, the Australian Indian Jia (Jiah Khan), during the latter's guest stay at his home. When Ritu grows unexpectedly ill, Vijay (sensing a definite attraction to Jia and possible reciprocation) offers to squire the young woman around town and introduce her to the local sights. The older man instantly falls for the younger woman, and she feels utterly enchanted by his laconic ways and easy confidence about the world around him. Vijay's wife and daughter, of course, aren't so understanding, and the relationship splits the family in half. As the lovers contemplate their course of action, Vijay's son, Shridar (Nasser) and Jia's (smitten) male friend, Rishi, each turn up and try to convince the pair to end things. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
