The SR engine is a 1.6 L, 1.8 L, or 2.0 L straight-4 4-stroke internal combustion gasoline engine manufactured by Nissan. It features an aluminum head and aluminum block with steel sleeves in selected models, the average JDM engines are cast iron blocks and steel-aluminum alloy heads, this type of block was sometimes used to save manufacturing costs on lower trim cars. DOHC 4-valve design, with some versions incorporating variable valve timing. The engine was used in many small to medium Nissan vehicles, including high-performance turbocharged variants. It was designed by Nissan as a replacement for the earlier CA series of engines. Power output shown is JIS Net PS or ECE Net kilowatts unless otherwise indicated.

SR18Di
The SR18Di is a 1.8 L (1838 cc) DOHC engine. It produces 110 PS (81 kW) @6500 rpm and 150 nm @4000 rpm.
Based on the single Throttle Body Mono Injection System, it was installed on JDM cars and some rare UK versions, this system was featured as a more economical option vs the more sporty SR20DE.
This is an example of cast iron block, in the pursuit of a more economical type of trim Nissan put this blocks on some cars like the Primera.
In regard to the Nissan Primera vehicles this system was only used on the P10 generation and due to the low overall power this engine option was dropped on the next generation, this engine was never been installed on the US counterpart the Infiniti G20.

SR18DE
The SR18DE is a 1.8 L (1838 cc) DOHC engine. It produces 125 PS (92 kW) @6000 rpm and 156 nm @4800 rpm.
Contrary to the (Di) variant this one features an electronic Multi Point Fuel Injection System ECCS (Electronic Concentrated Control System) by Nissan.

SR20Di
The SR20Di is a 2.0 L (1998 cc) DOHC engine. It produces 122 PS (89 kW). Bore and stroke are 86 mm (3.4 in) and 86 mm (3.4 in).
Similar to the 1.8 liter version except for bigger displacement it´s the same mono-injection system on the throttle body.

SR20DE and SR20De
The Nissan SR20DE engine is used in over 15 Nissan models. It first appeared in October 1989 and has been gradually phased out since the introduction of the QR (low-emissions) engine family. The SR20DE carried nominal power ratings between 140 to 145 Horsepower (104 to 108 Kw) from the factory. The design was very responsive to aftermarket improvements and became a favorite among compact sports car enthusiasts during its operational life especially as it revved very high. (redline @ 7500rpm)

SR20DET
The SR20DET is a turbocharged and intercooled version of the SR20DE, initially producing 205 PS (151 kW) in the S13 Nissan Silvia and 180SX. The second generation in the S14 Silvia produced 220 PS (166 kW) through the use of Nissan's VCT variable Cam timing and a ball bearing turbocharger. The final S15 Silvia version produced 250 PS (187 kW) @6400 rpm and 275 N·m (203 ft·lbf) @4800 rpm with an improved Inconel impeller wheel for its turbocharger. The SR20DET has become a common engine swap for a wide spectrum of cars ranging from Nissan Sentras (using FWD versions of the SR engine), to Datsun 510s (Datsun 1600) because of its compact size, RWD format, and its OEM turbo. It is also very popular in the U.S. as an engine swap for the S13/S14 due to its factory JDM application in the Silvia.
The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R version was developed as a World Rally Championship homologation engine. It received Quad throttle body and a Garrett T28 turbocharger, larger injectors, as well as a large top-mount intercooler.
