nitro compounds

Organic compounds containing the group –NO₂ (the nitro group) bound to a carbon atom. Nitro compounds are made by nitration reactions. They can be reduced to aromatic amines (e.g. nitrobenzene can be reduced to phenylamine). See also explosive.
