No. 578 Squadron RAF was a bomber squadron of the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

It was first formed at Snaith, Yorkshire in January 1944, equipped with Halifax III bombers, as part of No. 4 Group RAF in Bomber Command.

It transferred to Burn, North Yorkshire in February, and was disbanded there in April 1945.

The first Commanding Officer was Wing Commander D S S Wilkerson DSO DFC and aircrew included Pilot Officer Cyril Joe Barton VC.
