A town in the territory of Benjamin which was the residence of Ahimelech and the priests, and apparently a sanctuary. David was given refuge here, and was given Goliath's sword which was kept there (I Sam chaps 21-22). In retaliation Saul ordered the massacre of the priests of Nob. It was a place from which the Assyrians on their march from the north could view the city of Jerusalem for the first time (Is 10:32). After the return from the Babylonian Exile Nob was settled by Benjamites (Neh 11:32). Thought to be south of Gibeah (Tell el-Ful) and perhaps in the area of "French Hill" on the north side of modern Jerusalem.
