bonds that have not been rated by one or more of the major rating agencies such as standard & poor’s, moody’s investors service or fitch ratings. Issues are usually nonrated because they are too small to justify the expense of getting a rating. Nonrated bonds are not necessarily better or worse than rated bonds, though many institutions cannot buy them because they need to hold bonds with an investment-grade rating.
