Not limited to routes between Norway and the US, Nordic American Tanker Shipping transports crude oil and petroleum products around the globe. The company operates a fleet of more than 15 tankers, primarily on the spot market. Its fleet has an overall capacity of about 3.1 million deadweight tons (DWT). Nordic American's vessels are managed by Scandic American Shipping, a company owned by Nordic American CEO Herbjørn Hansson. It works through cooperation agreements with Canadian tanker company Teekay Corporation and fellow Norwegian shipper Frontline Ltd. Nordic American was formed in 1995 in order to acquire and operate three tankers for BP Shipping. It went public in 2010.
