Nore naval mutiny

British History: Nore naval mutiny

Nore naval mutiny, 1797. Unlike Spithead, the Nore was not a fleet station but an assembly point. The noisome conditions in the depot/flag ship Sandwich sparked an agitation which was disseminated through the anchorage. Starvation smothered the mutiny; Richard Parker, the leader, and 29 of his confederates, were hanged.
