Normethadone (INN, BAN; brand names Cophylac, Dacartil, Eucopon, Mepidon, Noramidone, Normedon, and others), also known as desmethylmethadone or phenyldimazone, is a synthetic opioid analgesic and antitussive agent.[1] In addition to being used as a pharmaceutical drug, normethadone is an active metabolite of methadone, and is approximately between one- and two-thirds as potent in comparison.[citation needed] Similarly to methadone, normethadone has a long duration and a slow onset of action.[citation needed]
